Focus on the system… not the goal. - James Clear

James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, starts his book off discussing this major game changing concept. Understanding systems vs goals is the key to actually achieving the goals you set forth for yourself.

The system is made up of your habits, rituals, and routines. The system lies in what small tasks you do daily, to achieve the end goal. When you focus on the system, you enjoy the journey more. You actually, most times, get lost in the journey. If you desire the end goal so heavily, it actually moves farther away from you. You cannot attract anything you are not. You can attract everything you are. Therefore, become the person who attains the goals you wish to attain. Engage yourself in the daily habits and routines, the person you wish to be engages themselves in (fyi in reality you are already your dream person, you just have to believe it).

I don’t think focusing so heavily on becoming another person is key. I think it is a matter of training your mind to truly believe you possess the things you wish to have. It is in a state of being that you actually receive and attract. You cannot achieve from a place of lack or feeling not enough.

When you have systems in place, you can move towards the goals you have set for yourself. Let’s say you want a huge house and fancy clothes. Well this is vague, but follow along. What would the person who has these things be doing? Would they be sleeping in? Would they be waiting for the money to fall in their lap? Would they not take advantage of the spare time they have to create the life they want? Would they not be working out? I mean hello, you have to look good in the clothes. Would they be letting the days get past, with absolutely no regard to time. I think the f*ck not.

They actually would be creating routines that allow room for growth, expansion, and abundance. They would be focusing on gratitude and pure joy. They would feed the things that bring them joy, whether it’s family time, surrounding themselves with positive people, going to their favorite coffee shop, listening to an abundant audio/podcast. I mean, the options are endless. It is a matter of taking the actionable steps to achieve this. You have to just do it. Get up, get moving, and don’t look back. Leave behind the thoughts and habits that are preventing you from operating as your best self.

As you can see, maybe the things you have been doing, are doing you more harm than good, and listen it is okay. We have all been at a place where we have not been too satisfied with our choices. Acknowledgement is a part of growth. The first step is accepting who you are and what you have been doing. Accepting, if any, your unhealthy habits or self-limiting beliefs.

Systems are extremely more important than goals. Goals are your why and systems are your how. You don’t forget the goals, you hold on to them because they remind you why your systems are in place. It’s like you know the goals are there but loosen your grip a little, and have this huge knowing that when the time is right, they will come into fruition. It is in the very act of letting go, that things begin to make sense. It’s almost like an odd relief in letting go and trusting that God has the best in store for you, no matter what. You show up as the person you wish to become. Everything is a matter of delusion, like for real. Don’t think too much about this. It’s as simple as showing up, putting your head down, staying focused, and remembering your why. I didn’t say it was easy but simple indeed. Everyones why is different, that’s the beauty of it all.

You may not fully enjoy where you are now but you realize the beauty in transformation. We have to be transformed to achieve the things we want. We must be accepting of today, accepting of the things we have been doing, and use it as fuel to be better. If we don’t accept the present,  it will be extremely challenging to create abundance in our life. You cannot operate out of a place of lack or want, you must truly believe you have all it is that you want. That is when things start showing up, opportunities come knocking, and slowly but surely life for you begins making sense.

Happy Creating and Learning,
